TORONTO (July 9, 2014) – TSN confirmed today that beautiful Banff, Alta. will again play host to the networks annual All-Star Curling Skins Game – a fan-favourite curling event. The Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre, located in Banff National Park and surrounded by the Canadian Rockies, will house TSNs annual curling skins game on January 16-18, 2015. “We are thrilled to welcome back TSN and the curling all-stars to the Town of Banff and The Fenlands,” said Karen Sorensen, Mayor, Town of Banff. “The high calibre of players and the excitement of the skins tournament make it a highlight of our winter festival. Were greatly looking forward to the 2015 event and the announcement of this years participants.” “We warmly welcome the return of elite-level curling to Banff National Park as a special addition to our SnowDays Festival, an annual celebration of Banffs historic love of winter,” adds Stuart Back, Interim CEO, Banff Lake Louise Tourism. “As a world-renowned destination for winter sports, Banff is a natural fit to again be the home of the All-Star Curling Skins Game and were proud to be the host of TSNs all-star event for the second year running.” “We are delighted to be returning to the Town of Banff and The Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre. The reception our all-star curlers received last year from The Town of Banff, the entire Bow Valley region, and curling fans across the country was extraordinary,” said Ian Charlton, Managing Director, TSN Events. “World elite curlers and this premier winter wonderland destination are the perfect pairing. Were excited to raise the bar yet again in 2015 and deliver a few new wrinkles and surprises for curling fans across the country.” Earlier this year, two-time world champion Jeff Stoughton and his all-star teammates defeated five-time TSN skins champion Kevin Martin to take home $70,500 in prize winnings at TSNs two-day all-star event that featured the Top 16 Canadian mens curlers, as voted by fans. Patrick Sharp had four assists, and Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith also scored for the Blackhawks. Rickard Rakells power-play goal midway through the third period spoiled the shutout bid for Corey Crawford, who made 21 saves as Chicago notched its third straight victory at Honda Center. Frederik Andersen stopped 29 shots for the Ducks, who have dropped two in a row following a six-game winning streak. The Blackhawks, who were up 3-0 entering the third, blew three one-goal leads in Wednesdays 4-3 loss at Los Angeles, and perhaps thoughts of that game entered their minds when Rakell scored off a feed from Corey Perry with 9:54 remaining. But Kane put Chicago back up by three with 6:35 left. Somehow Kane was left alone in front of Andersen and he tipped in Sharps pass from the right-wing boards. Toews gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead 5:30 into the game. He fumbbled a pass that Kane sent through the legs of Anaheim defenseman Hampus Lindholm but was still able to beat Andersen with a shot from the right circle.dddddddddddd The Ducks nearly tied it in the second period following an odd carom. Crawford, however, was able to dive out front and poke the puck away before Ryan Kesler could put it into an empty net. Kesler wound up colliding into Crawford, but neither player was injured. Keith scored on a slap shot from above the left circle at 9:16 of the second. The goal was allowed to stand even though Toews fell over Andersen. Kane collected a drop pass from Sharp just inside the offensive zone and beat Andersen on a wrister from the slot for Chicagos third goal with 4:37 remaining in the second. Game Notes The goal by Keith was his 400th NHL point ... Andersen suffered his first loss since Dec. 31. He had won his last seven starts ... Patrick Maroon picked up the secondary assist on Rakells goal, extending his point streak to six games. ' ' '
